Chapter 14 - In Eumaeus' Hut



Summary: Maram

Odysseus goes back to Ithaca and sees Eumaeus. Eumaeus was his most faithful steward.Odysseus is disguised and Eumaeus doesn't recognize him, but invites him to eat anyway. Odysseus listens to Eumaeus talk about his former master (Odysseus) and how terribly the suitors act. Odysseus tries to ell Eumaeus that he will see his former master soon, but Eumaeus doesn't believe him. Odysseus spends the night there. Odysseus said he was from Crete when asked. He said on his way home from the Trojan War he ended up in Thesportia where the king told him about Odysseus and that he was still alive. Eumaeus called Odysseus' claims falsehoods and said that Odysseus was just trying to make him feel better.

He then continues on to tell him all about his adventures in battle and his trip afterwards.

He was glad to see that Eumaeus was concerned about his master's property and possessions, and that he would sleep outside to protect it.
